What does the bible say about tattoo and piercing?

A lot of people been asking me what does the bible say about tattoos & piercing? So her you go!

Old Testament

The only Scripture specifically mentioning “tattoos” is found in the Old Testament: “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.” Leviticus 19:28. Tattoos were used extensively by the other nations for pagan worship, decoration, and to mark a slave. Based on Leviticus 19:28, tattoos are still forbidden among Jews today (by both Orthodox, Conservative, and Reformed Judaism). There is even one rabbinic text prohibiting the burial of bodies with tattoos. (However this prohibition is very rarely enforced – although some traditional Jewish mortuaries and cemeteries will not officiate at a funeral of one who is tattooed.)

The only Scripture that I know of on decorative “piercing” (as opposed to piercing by a sword or nails) is Exodus 21:6. This is a passage on piercing the ear lobe of a person to mark him as a slave. In the Jewish nation, slaves and pagans were the only ones with pierced ears. When Jacob’s family wanted to set themselves apart to the Lord, earrings are specifically mentioned as items that they put off (Genesis 35:4). Apparently any disfigurement or cutting  of the body was not allowed for His “holy people” (see Leviticus 21:5; Deuteronomy 14:1-2; 1 Kings 18:28). The only exception to this was circumcision (Genesis 17:11-13). In modern day Judaism, it has become permissible for women in the West to pierce their ears because it is a common practice among the majority non-Jewish population. Jewish men, however, still may not pierce their ears.

In the Jewish writings on this subject, the rabbis refer to two concepts: (1) We were “made in the image of God.” Even though God is spirit, somehow our bodies reflect God’s glory. (2) Our bodies are a good gift from God – complete as is. As one Jewish rabbi put it, “No matter how well considered, a tattoo is the result of a short-term decision to decorate the body forever. What hubris to imagine that any of us, as individuals, can improve artistically on the original design of the Lord.”

New Testament

So if you were a Jew living in the Old Testament (or today), it would be clear that God forbids tattoos and piercings. However, Christians don’t obey all the Old Testament laws. As a matter of fact, some of them are specifically set aside by Jesus and the apostles. Are tattoos and piercings still forbidden or are they now acceptable for a Christian?

For more on the subject of taking Old Testament commandments and relating them to the present day, I recommend that you read How to Apply the Old Testament to Today. But let’s ask, “Do the Old Testament verses line up with any basic principle found in the New Testament?” The answer is “yes.” There is the New Testament concept that our bodies are not our own. This teaching is found specifically in 1 Corinthians 6:12-20:

“The body is meant for the Lord” 1 Corinthians 6:13.
“Your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 6:19.
“You are not your own; you were bought at a price.” 1 Corinthians 6:19.
“Honor God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:20.
The key principle here seems to be that our bodies belong to God, not ourselves, and that we are to use them in ways that honor and reflect God’s glory.

Conclusion

Now let’s use deduction to arrive at a conclusion. Based upon these facts (the Old Testament commands against tattoos and piercings AND the New Testament principle that my body is not my own) I would reason that God would rather I leave my body free from self-inflicted marks and cuts. We were made in “the image of God.” Apparently He thinks no further pictorial adornment is needed.

Could I be wrong about this? Sure, it’s a deduction, rather than a specific New Testament command. But I think the key point that is clear in the New Testament is that our bodies aren’t really ours to decorate as we see fit. Therefore, I tell people to ask God whether He wants His body tattooed or pierced. If you get a “yes” answer, then I won’t condemn you. Just make sure it is God speaking to you and not you speaking to yourself in the name of God.

A Final Word

Nothing in what I’ve said is meant to imply any disapproval against those who come to Christ with tattoos, cuttings, or piercings. We come to Jesus just as we are – with all our imperfections in spirit and body. There are many people in our church who have tattoos and scars from their previous life before Christ. Some of these tattoos are even pagan or demonic. Some of the cuttings are from suicide attempts. No one looks down on these brothers or sisters or judges them. We are all flawed sinners. That is why we need Jesus. Some of us bear our markings outwardly. Some of us bear them more inwardly.

Christmas Special: Jesus is Like a Vine

Speaker: Pastor Frank Osayi
Bible Scriptures:
John 15:1 - 6 - I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.

John 10:10 - The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

John 3:16 - For God so love the world that he gave his only begotten son, that who so ever believe in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

1st John 3:8 - The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.

Notes: Unto us a son is given, a child is born, a gift was given to us. Jesus came into this world so we may have life. Jesus has come to give you life, if you want  peaceful life, a joyful life, a blessed life, come to Jesus. The work of the devil was to destroy your life, and to steal, to kill, and destroy. The work of the Lord was to destroy the devil and his work. All Gods children must be attached to his vine, were the branch and he is the vine (we must be with God, and never leave his sight). Stay connected o Jesus, don't run away, a branch cannot survive when they are apart from the vine.

Prayers 2

Speaker: Minister Anthony Chinan
Bible Scriptures:
Matthew 26:38 - 45 - Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter.“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.” When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing. Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners.

2nd Chronicles 7:14 - f my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Notes: The thing that kept us going is prayers. Prayer and forgiveness kept you going, because you are in a journey to heaven. Prayers got you here today, if it wasn't for prayers, you would have been in the world and be doing all this evil things. In the bible Judas one of Jesus disciples betrayed Jesus, but Jesus forgive him, and he kept on going. Without prayers the church will not stand, without prayers you will not survive in this world. Prayers kept the family moving forward. When somebody breaks your heart only Prayers will put it back together.

Harvest

Speaker: Pastor Frank Osayi
Bible Scriptures:
Malachi 1:6 - "A son honors his father, and a slave his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me? If I am a master, where is the respect due me?" says the LORD Almighty. "It is you priests who show contempt for my name. "But you ask, 'How have we shown contempt for your name?'

2nd Timothy 2:1-7  -  You then, my son, be strong inthe grace that is in Chrit Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor's crown except by competing according to the rules. The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops.Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.

1st Chronicles 28:9 - "And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.

Exodus 23:25 - Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you,

Notes: Harvest - is a result of all your effort; the process or period of gathering in crops. Whatever we are going through we wil have to enure it until our time has come. Jesus is the vine and we are the branches, we must never break away from the vine, which means we should never run away or get away from Jesus. What makes you to be a Christian if you don't even pray, or read the Word of God. Example: Look at the muslims or islams they pray 5 times a day, and read their own book. It's not to difficult to pray or read th Word of God. Even the Bible reccomend you to pray. David was a man, he wasn't that perfect, he made alot of mistakes, but he's bold. He loves God, and dore him. He always pray to God, and ask for forgiveness. He had the boldness to fac Goliah the Giant, and when he had tha strong bold, he end up killing Goliah. The bible said out of thy belly shall flow rivers of living water. Serve the Lord with a perfect will and a perfect heart.

Thanksgiving

Speaker: Pastor Frank Osayi
Bible Scriptures:ca

Philippians 4:6 - Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Luke 17:11 - Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee.

Psalm 50:7 - Listen, my people, and I will speak; I will testify against you, Israel: I am God, your God.

Psalm 102:13 - You will arise and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to show favor to her; the appointed time has come.

Notes: Thanksgiving is meant for grateful people. We need to set aside what we are doing and thank God for everything he has done for us. Thanksgiving - The Act of Giving Thanks, Grateful Acknowledgement, Thanking People for Everything They Have Done for You. Whatever we have it belongs to God, our body, the church, every living thing and non - living thing belongs to God. We need to do what God told us txo do, we need to step aside a day and thank him for giving us life, a home, good parents, food, clothes, and for everything he has done for us.

It's Time To get Right ith God 2

Speaker: Pastor Frank Frank Osayi
Bible Scripture:
Psalm 34:9 - Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing.

Ecclesiastes 12:13 - Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.

Proverbs 1:7 - The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Psalm 25:12 - 14 - Who, then, are those who fear the Lord? He will instruct them in the ways they should choose. They will spend their days in prosperity, and their descendants will inherit the land. Of David. In you, Lord my God, I put my trust.

Notes: To fear God is to honor him, man is a spirit, but we live in the physical body. We need to know who God is. Wisdom - rightful application of what you know. The fear of the Lord is respecting him. If you’re willing to obey God you will eat good crops from the land, but if you refuse to obey, you will be destroyed by the enemy’s swords. We respect God that pleases with respect & fear.

1.Until we rightly reverence God, we will not become wise, respect God.
2.True wisdom comes from understanding that God is holy, just  and righteous.
3.Seeking to live a life in a way that pleases him.

It's Time To get Right ith God

Speaker: Minister Ada
Bible Scriptures:
Matthew 20:12 -   'These who were hired last worked only one hour,' they said, 'and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the.

Matthew 24:8 - All these are th beginning of sorrow.

Ephesians 6:1 - 3 - Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 Honour your father and your mother, which is the first commandment with promise. 3 and so that it maygo well and that you will enjoy long life on earth.

Notes: if your worship things other than God, then God is a jealous God.  Alot of people are looking for spouse, or a job or more from God, but when he grant you this then you walk away from God and do not do the work of God. Now is the time to get right with God. If your not getting right with God, now is the time to repent, or ask for forgiveness. Tomorrow is not promising, you won't know if your life ends, or continue on. you should ask God to help us and to walk on righteousness. many people turn away or reject God. God wants children to obey their parents, and be respectul, evven though they are bad you must still obey them, respect them and at the same time pray for your parents, and when you honour your parents your days will be long

Looking unto Jesus

Hebrews 12:2 - fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Romans 12:1 - Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

Romans 14:10 - As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

Way to Worship God:
1. Give our bodies to God
Let them be a living and holy sacrafise - the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.
2.Don't copy the behavior or customs of this world
But let God transforms you into a new person by changing the way you think.
Examples: If any gathering you go or see if their talking about Go or Jesus you stay their, but if they don't then you leave if their gossipping or talking about someone walk away from it.

Psalm 119:89 Forever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.

2nd Corinthians 13:1 - 13 - This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.

Luke 6:46 - And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Hosea 6:6 - For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

Foudner & History of St.Joseph Chosen Church of God INT.

Late Joseph Ikechiuku Anyanwu (Elect Of God) hailed from Abala, Ogbuebulle, Oboro in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria. He received his call into the ministry of the Gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in the year 1937 at Nkwerre Onitsha, where he worked in the Agricultural Plantation as a labourer.

The Late Apostle Joseph Ikechiuku gave an account of his calling thus:
“In my dream I was brought to an open field. There, I heard a voice from heaven calling me, ‘Joseph! Joseph!! Joseph!!! lift up your eyes to heaven.’ When I lifted up my eyes, I saw the inscription written in Igbo language: ‘ Ihe ana chosike nke mba dum ka ibu’ meaning, ‘ You are what all nations earnestly desire.’ The voice continued, ‘Do not touch or handle unclean things, but be ye holy, for you are purposely created and destined for the work of God.’ ”

The Apostle understood the “Work of God” in this message as preaching of the gospel of the kingdom of God and the establishment of the church of God. After the call, Joseph Ikechiuku returned to his hometown, Ogbuebulle, and fellowshipped with the Apostolic Church where he had been baptized by Reverend Dodders about three years before his call.

Five years after his first encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ, Apostle Ikechiuku left his home environment for Cowan Estate, Ajagbodudu, near Sapele in the then midwest province of Western Region, now Delta State of Nigeria, on February 10, 1942. There at Cowan Estate, Palm Plantation belonging to U.A.C, he was appointed headman over a unit of about fifty labourers, where he instinctively developed the habit of using a staff.

Today, like the biblical staff of Moses turned the ‘rod of God’, a staff of authority has become a prominent part of his ministerial paraphernalia.

St.JCCG History

St. Joseph's Chosen Church of God International

History of the Church

ORIGIN: The Church was founded by Apostle Joseph Ikechiuku, of blessed memory. He was born on 13th July 1913, in Abata quarters, Ogbuebulle Village, Oboro District, Ikwuano Local Government area, Umuahia, Imo State, now Abia State.

On 17th July 1937, he received his call into the Ministry while he was a labourer in the field of Agriculture at Nkwere, near Onitsha. God spoke to him there that he was 'a thing the whole world desire to see'; and he saw this inscription in a dream written in Ibo Language on the Sky. At Ajagbodudu in 1942, he was employed as a head labourer in Cowan Estate Palm plantation. Here while working in the field, the Holy Spirit came upon him in 1945 and he fell on the ground. Power was given to him to start doing the work of God. He then resigned and took up photography, to enable him get enough time and money for the work of God.

In 1946, he built his first Church here at Ajagbodudu and called it St. Joseph Apostolic Church. Here also he received the revelation, which led him to compile the Immutable Rules and Conduct, now known as Rules and Conduct of St. Joseph's Chosen Church of God. In 1947, the revelation of the Box of Covenant was received here at Cowan Estate Ajagbodudu. The Construction and consecretion of the Box of Covenant were also done at Ajagbodudu.

The Box of Covenant was to be a token of his call and an agreement between him (Ikechiuku) and God. In 1949, he established the Church at Urhuovie, Urhuoka and Oria all in Abraka. In 1952 the Holy Spirit led him to Urhuoka in Abraka where he uncovered The First Healing Water. On 12th May 1950, Apostle Joseph Ikechiuku established the Church in Benin City. The Oba of Benin, Oba Akenzua II and his Chiefs, on 14th May, 1950, gave him audience and granted him the permission to build the Church. In 1952, approval was given to him to purchase the land at the cost of N30.00 (Thirty Naira Only), where he built the first Church in Benin at No 36 Virginia Street, Benin City.

The first Annual Conference of the Church was held in Benin City in 1952. A branch of St. Joseph's Apostolic Church, as it was then called, was established at Sapele in 1953. In 1954, a second healing water was uncovered inside a thick forest in Ogbeson Village, off Agbor Road, Benin City. In the History of the Church, much importance is attached to the Year 1952, because that was the year God directed the founder to go and pray for the healing of Late Deaconess Anna Alile, the mother of the present Spiritual Leader, Apostle (Dr) Hayford Alile (OFR). He rode on a bicycle from Ajagbodudu to Benin City, a distance of 31 miles.

In June 1960, the name of the Church was changed to St. Joseph's Chosen Church of God. On November 11th, 1964, St. Joseph's Chosen Church of God was registered under the Land Perpetual Succession Act, with Apostle J. Ikechiuku as Sole Trustee.
Growth of the Church Before the Crisis. As the afflicted were set free through the power of the Holy Spirit, so were souls drawn unto God for their salvation. As the news of the miracles spread, so grew the Church of God. It is interesting that majority of the Ministers; Caretakers in Churches, Elders, Deacons and Deaconesses have one story of a miraculous healing or the other to tell.

Apostle Joseph Ikechiuku was called at about the same time with two other prominent men of God and they were doing similar works. They were Apostle Joseph Babalola of the Apostolic Church, and Joseph Akindoyemi of the Redeemed Church of God. In about twenty years, between 1946 when Apostle J. Ikechiuku built his first Church at Ajagbodudu to 1966, the eve of the Civil War, the Church grew astronomically. At that time, there were a total of One Hundred and Fifteen (115) Churches or Stations having not less than thirty-four thousand (34,000) members through out the Country. In the then Mid-Western Region alone, there were sixty-five Stations divided into eight districts.

In terms of personnel, there were about that time six staff (ordained) Pastors, fourteen unordained Pastors and thirty-five Teachers, all trained by the Elect of God, Apostle Joseph Ikechiuku.
